How to stay focused on work you need to complete

DO WHAT YOU NEED BEFOREHAND

  • Eat, drink before working, too much can have a negative effect
  • Make use of the washroom now rather than later
  • Do whatever else now so you won't have to while in the middle of work

PREPARATION

  • Gather all supplies you need complete your work
  • Calculate your time you intend to work and plan it out
  • Add in short breaks, don't stray off for too long

ELIMINATE YOUR DISTRACTIONS

  • Turn off phones, computer, tv, and other electronics
  • If you are using the computer, don't turn on an internet browser
  • Eliminate other potential distractions, can be noisy neighbours due to open window etc...

IDEAL WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Make sure your work area is comfortable, if not, change location
  • If home isn't the ideal place, try a quiet place like the library
  • Do take notice of the lighting, working at well-lit to medium-lit place is better than the dark

EASE IN, DON'T FORCE IT

  • Start out slow, focusing does not happen right away
  • Convincing yourself you are interested in you work helps, even if it's a lie
  • Do not think of unnecessary things aside from your work

ELAX, DON'T THINK NEGATIVELY

  • Rushing through something is not a good idea, even if your time is severely limited
  • Taking it slowly and accurately is better than being rash about it
  • Work on the easier problems first if possible, it helps you getting focus easier as it gives a sense of accomplishment

THINK OF THE CONSEQUENCES

  • If you are unable to get motivated to do what you need to do
  • Think of the consequences, does it need to be done?, what will happen if you don't do it
  • Is this worth doing, or is thing something you can afford to not do
  • The mindset behind this is that if it's something important, you will have to do it either way
